About

I’m Daniela, ice-cream lover, a living musical and your resident Disney princess. University student, muso and problematic stationery shopper.  The more optimistic of the pair who has tendencies to drop Disney references in everyday conversation and may spontaneously break into song. A 23 year old with a very confusing accent. I've moved a few times and tend to adapt how I speak to different people oops. Filipino born, Middle Eastern grown and honorary Kiwi... I hope that explains it.

As far as blog posts, you'll probably see a lot of animated movies with an emphasis on Disney but I'll try not to scare you away with that little part of my obsessions. I firmly believe that animated movies aren't just for kids. I have a great appreciation for the animation process, from the concept art to the storyboards to what you see on screen. With that being said, I DO like other movies that aren't animated as well *shocker*! As far as music goes I'd say I like to stay in the middle ground of the genres.. I love film scores (especially when ahem trying to study), the stuff on the charts, the under-appreciated talents and I've recently gained an (unsurprising) liking to many Broadway soundtracks. Plus I'm a sucker for good harmonies. I'm the person that tries to figure out what song is playing in the background of my favourite television shows... even if it's on a radio that's playing very faintly. My taste in books is basically anything that piques my interest... but I rarely find the time to finish them lately so this is where Justine comes in haha.

Gee, this is harder than I thought it was going to be. Ok. I’m Justine, I’m just going to say I was born in ’94 because the chances of my updating my age every year is slim so you can just work it out. I’m South African born but I’ve lived in New Zealand since I was five so I’m practically a Kiwi (minus the accent and the obsession with rugby, I fancy myself a bit more of a football person). I am a History/Spanish/Psychology/Stats major (yes, all four of them), also known as mildly confused crazy person. I’d love to be a Spanish Historian once I’ve completed my studies so please, visit me in my cardboard box on the street someday. I’ve also always wanted to be a writer so clearly I’m going to be a millionaire (I’m also terribly sarcastic, sorry).

Ok, so maybe some things that would actually be of use to you. I like films with good stories. I’m a sucker for great twists, corrupt characters, clever use of film techniques and non-linear storylines. If you’re reading my film reviews you’re probably going to see a lot of mafia movies, Tarantino, Scorsese, Nolan and Burton films, films where people die at the end, films they show at the Rialto and occasionally historical films. My taste in books is somewhat less consistent. It varies from Harry Potter to the Catcher in the Rye to Primal Fear so, yeah. As for music, this is possibly even more variable. I like everything (except screamo, I have a general rule that I should be able to hear the actual words to a song instead of guttural yelling). I have a particular soft spot at present for Tchaikovsky, Tokio Hotel and Broods. This is likely to change tomorrow.

In any case, if you’ve got any questions just ask.

Uh, thanks?
(Also I write essays...sorry)

How This Works:

Ok, so generally Justine posts on Tuesdays (that's NZ time so likely to be Monday for many of you) and Daniela posts on Thursdays (Wednesdays). We also rate the films/books/music based on a "Cut" or "Keep" system with our rating out of ten below.
"Keep" means it's scored over 5/10 and "Cut" means it's scored below 5/10.

Enjoy!
