The Legend of Korra: Finale Recap - The Day of the Colossus & The LastStand

by Daniela

Hello there readers! Long time no see. I guess I’ll get the apologies out of the way. After exams ended I was thrust straight into the world of work once again and let me tell you… retail around the holiday season is no laughing matter. There have been many things that we’ve been dying to write about but so often they have been left as drafts and cast aside, unfinished and forgotten. But hey, now that we’re into the new year, new movies, new music… hopefully we can get back into the swing of things.

This post has been in the works for a while and I have tried to start and finish it on many occaisions. I guess you could say that I’m in denial, I can’t believe that The Legend of Korra is over and that I have to carry on without any new episodes. Mind you it’s already been about a month already. This is not the kind of life I want to live! All dramatics aside, like I’ve said, I’ve tried to write this finale post from different angles. A lot of times it just turned into a scene- by-scene retelling of the episodes. And that’s definitely not what I wanted. So hopefully, I have more luck with this one.

If you’re in the Avatar fandom (hey, even if you aren’t) you will know that the series finale of The Legend of Korra caused generated a lot of attention. All good things, all good things. It was a highly anticipated finale with plenty to offer. So far in the season, we’ve followed Korra’s struggle after she suffers the repercussions from her fight with Zaheer in the Book 3 finale. We watch her start from the bottom as she learns how to walk again and face her inner demons after suffering PTSD from the poison taking over her body. We’re also reintroduced to Kuvira who has taken the role as the main antagonist for the season and appears to be a dictator. The Air Nation has grown and the airbenders are more active in their snazzy new airbender suits. We leave things off after Kuvira’s Gambit, where Kuvira has just fired a blast at our heroes (and Bataar Jr. who is also her fiancĂ©e) from her giant mecha suit, the Colossus. The penultimate episode ends ambiguously as we don’t know if our Team Avatar (and Bataar Jr.) has survived. Oooh cliffhanger.

"The Legend of Korra: Book 3 - Change" Season Wrap-up [Part 2]

by Daniela

Check out Part 1 of The Legend of Korra Season Wrap-Up HERE

Deaths and Almost Deaths

I almost counted my almost death in this section because I think my heart stopped about 50+ times in that finale.

Let’s start it off with the Earth Queen being left breathless after Zaheer air bends the air out of her lungs. Insert Zaheer's monologue about the world entering into darkness here. This is the first time we actually get to see air bending used in a deadly way. You could say it’s the air equivalent to blood bending. It shows that Zaheer is definitely not messing about when it comes to taking out the world leaders! I never liked the Earth Queen. How could you like her after finding out she ate Bosco and baby bison?! As unlikeable as she was, I was still pretty shaken by her death.

"The Legend of Korra: Book 3 - Change" Season Wrap-up [Part 1]

by Daniela

First thing's first... WOAH! Daniela missed her Thursday post! My apologies dear readers, my personal life went a bit haywire and week 6 of university happened. You get the jist. But better late than never! This week I've come to you with a behemoth of a post that I've been planning on writing for a while. It's so big that I even had to split it into 2 posts! Look out for part 2 tomorrow!

After months and months of silence, Avatar fans finally got their third season of The Legend of Korra! I've tried to summarise my thoughts about key characters/plots below in an (un)organised fashion. I'd also like to mention that this was written in collaboration with my friend Rosie who helped me come up with some points and remember details that I completely missed.

*WARNING: The Legend of Korra - Book 3 spoilers ahead!*

I liked Book 1 but found that there was too much romance for my liking. Book 2 was alright but sometimes the plot was just too confusing. Book 3 is by far the best season of The Legend of Korra to date. It's darker, gritter and on par with the standard that its predecessor set. Although predictable, it has the best plot, characters and animation of any of the books.Team Avatar is back and up against Zaheer and the Red Lotus. Since Book 2, Korra has lost her connection with her past lives and is trying to keep the balance between the spirit and human worlds. She soon learns about a group of benders lead by Zaheer who have been trying to kidnap her since she was a child. Armed with his newfound ability to airbend, Zaheer plans to bring the world into anarchy and end the Avatar cycle for once for all.
